Clean consciences

It’s easy sometimes to see ourselves and life from a skewed perspective. As Christians I think we are susceptible to this on several levels. On one level, we can forget the depth of sin that God has brought us “out of” when He saved us. On another, which is closely related, we can sometimes forget that we too struggle with giving Christ authority over EVERY part of our lives. Then, as if we are made judges over others, we show no tolerance for others when they struggle with sin. I believe the word that comes to mind is hypocrite….
In Mark chapter 7, Jesus said that the people of His day were reflecting what Isaiah said because they “honor Him with their lips but their hearts were actually far from Him”. Have you
ever been there? Where you put on a look of commitment and worship but are mentally or emotionally somewhere else? I have. And because I have, I am so thankful for the far reaching, never ending, forgiving and restoring grace of God! There is nothing that cleans us up like the blood of the Savior – It’s not just for when you first heard the gospel message – it’s for yesterday and today and tomorrow!
Hebrews 9:14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
When I feel weighed down from my sins, my failures, and my shortcomings, I remember this cleansing power of the Spirit which not only forgives sin but cleans us up from the inside, so we can serve God!
What freedom! Halleluiah! What a Savior!
